Heritage Lottery Fund Grant

Latest press Release

St Peter’s church has been fortunate in securing over one hundred and twenty thousand pounds in Heritage Lottery funding for major repair works.
In 2013 water was dripping into the church from our North Aisle roof. Subsequent investigation revealed that minute cracks had developed in the lead roof above. This has resulted in us having to replace all the lead on the roof. The problems stems from a lack of air circulation and inappropriate lead jointing.

In addition at the last architects inspection it was discovered that the south face of the Chancel roof had not been felted before the tiles were laid many hundreds of years ago.

This means that any breaks or slippage in the tiles has resulted in water seeping into the very old lathe and plaster Chancel ceiling below.

In addition the opportunity has arisen to undertake other major repair work such as repairing one of the north aisle buttresses. The picture below shows which stones are being replaced.

We hope to start on the work towards the end of July 2015 and it will take about twelve weeks to complete as you can see from the contractor’s timetable. Understandably, a lot of the work will subject to suitable weather conditions
