St Peter’s Heritage Centre.
The PCC are keen for St Peter’s to be developed as a Heritage Centre. The Centre would provide visitors with information about the historical, religious, cultural and political role of the Church in the history of the village and the wider area
The aim would be to show how the Church of Titchfield has developed over the past thirteen hundred years in order to meet the Christian needs within the village and along the Meon Valley. This would involve providing visitors with easy and accessible information in an interesting and evocative way.
An initial group was set up to see what might be involved in developing the Church as a Heritage Centre. Some funding would come through the Heritage Lottery Fund but a substantial amount would need to come from local sources.
Some proposals have already been actively considered for example , lowering the threshold of the Southampton Chapel doorway to allow a flat wheel chair access into the Church. Other ideas include modernizing the lighting in various areas and substantially improving displays ,and signage throughout the Church.
However ,how the Heritage Centre is to be developed is yet to to be finalised and, given the need for funding ,it may take some time to complete the work that is ultimately considered necessary.
if you have any ideas or suggestions we would be pleased to receive them. Please contact Paul Angelides (Tel No: 07946703474) or you can leave a written comment within the Church Office.
The aim is to ensure that St Peter’s is open every day and that the heritage of the church is accessible to all visitors.
