2022 Competition Rules

  1. This competition to design, build and display a scarecrow on the theme of “Great British Traditions” is open to anyone living in the parish of Titchfield.
  2. >Those living outside of the trail route but within the parish of Titchfield can apply for a pitch to display a scarecrow within the church grounds. These pitches are limited and will be allocated on a first to apply basis. Please indicate on your entry form if you need this facility.
  3. There are two parts to the competition and each part attracts one prize winner:
    • One for the Scarecrow on the trail that receives the most votes
    • One for the most correct Scarecrow titles entered on the trail competition form
  4. The fee for a household/business/organisation to enter a single scarecrow into the competition is £5.
  5. The fee for visitors to enter the ‘Guess the title of the scarecrows’ competition is £5 per family/entry.
  6. Visitor trail maps and competition forms can be purchased from St Peter’s Church, Titchfield each day from 10am to 4pm.
  7. Visitor trail maps/forms will list the numbers of all the scarecrows on trail. Please bring a pen/pencil to complete the form and your vote for the best scarecrow.
  8. Scarecrow creators must submit a completed entry form and pay their entry fee by midnight on Friday 7th May 2022.
    • If paying by cash your form should be returned to St Peter’s Church, Church Street, Titchfield, PO14 4AG with your payment.
    • If paying by BACS (details are on the entry form) please email your completed entry form to: scarecrowtrail@nullstpetertitchfield.org.uk
  9. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
  10. There is no restriction on the number of entries per household/shop etc but each entry attracts a £5 fee.
  11. If a tableau is entered that has more than one scarecrow in it then this counts as a single entry.
  12. Nearer the start date you will be supplied with a number card to display by or on your scarecrow. This will correspond with the numbers on the visitor trail forms and maps purchased on the day. Visitors will guess the title of each display and vote for their favourite scarecrow before handing their forms in at St Peter’s Church at the end of the trail.
  13. Each scarecrow and its number card must be positioned so it can be viewed from the public footpath or highway shown on the trail map.
  14. Scarecrows must be in place by 6pm on Friday 27th May 2022 and remain in position until 5pm on Sunday 5th June 2022.
  15. Scarecrows must be appropriately secured so as not to blow away or to pose any risk of injury or damage to any person, animal or property. However, neither the organisers nor St Peter’s church take any responsibility for any damage caused by the creation, erection or display of any scarecrow.
  16. Scarecrows must be of 3D construction. Beyond this requirement, entrants are free to build their scarecrow as they see fit and using whatever materials they wish.
  17. This is a family-friendly event. The organisers reserve discretion to disqualify any entry regarded as obscene or as having been designed to cause deliberate offence.
  18. Anyone following the scarecrow trail must follow any social distancing rules in place at the time.
  19. All proceeds from the competition will support the life and work of your Parish Church in Titchfield.
  20. There will be two prizes themed on ‘Great British Traditions’:
    • One for the scarecrow that receives the most votes
    • One for the most correct Scarecrow titles entered on the trail competition form
    • Cash alternatives to the prizes are not available
  21. In the event of more than one winner in either category a winner will be picked at random from the winning entries.
  22. Any personal data relating to the winners or other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection law. It will not be disclosed to third parties without the entrant’s prior consent. The organisers will contact the competition winner(s) to arrange receipt of the prize(s).
  23. Submission of a completed entry form and payment of the entry fee(s) is deemed as acceptance of these rules.
